Meet our pastor, Kim Schwartz, at
Vista Grande Community Church-United Church of Christ in Colorado
Springs, in her own words:
I grew up in western Washington. I received a Bachelor of Science
from the University of Washington in Atmospheric Sciences in 1986,
and then worked as a meteorologist for Boeing for 6 years. I am
always willing to talk about the weather! I stayed home with my kids
for a few years when they were very young. Then in 2003, I graduated
with a Master’s of Divinity from Seattle University’s School of
Theology and Ministry. I served as interim minister to the First
Congregational Church in Forks, Washington in 2005 and 2006. My
ordination took place on August 5, 2007, after receiving my call to
Vista Grande UCC. |
My husband, Mark, and I have been
married for 16 years. Mark is a computer programmer who loves to hike
and climb mountains. We have two kids: Johnathan is 14, loves
computers and robotics, and plays viola. Elizabeth is 12, loves
science and reading, and plays the double bass. My hobbies include
gardening, yoga, and crafts.
Theologically speaking, I believe God loves all people and desires to
be in relationship with us. I believe we are called to love God with
our whole beings and part of the way we show that love is to love our
neighbors as ourselves. I feel that worship should relate to the
whole person: mind, heart, spirit, and senses. Since God is good and
loves us, worship is most often hopeful, and fun. Even when we are in
deep grief, worship reminds us of the hope that leads us back to joy.
As a minister, I believe in the priesthood of all believers, that
each of us has gifts to use in ministering to one another and to the
world. Furthermore, I believe that the love and grace that God pours
out on us is not a secret to be guarded, but rather a message to
share and proclaim. |
